The island of the rising sun is enchanting and mad in equal measure, but always bewitching. We traveled from the bright lights of Tokyo to Mitakesan, where we wandered through forests and enjoyed the warm hospitality of a traditional ryokan. We also took the opportunity to visit the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, being huge fans of Hayao Miyazaki’s work. Continuing, we visited the temples of Kamakura, fell in love with Kyoto, walked with the deer in Nara, felt the despair and hope of Hiroshima, boarded the ferry to Miyajima Island and climbed the steep steps of Himeji Castle. Japan became one of our favorite places in the world, and we cannot wait to go back.
